No, laser refractive surgery is virtually painless. We use anesthetic eye drops to ensure your comfort during the procedure. You might feel some pressure, but no sharp pain. Most patients report a mild gritty sensation for a few hours afterward.

Recovery is typically very fast. Most patients notice improved vision within 24 hours. You can usually return to normal light activities the next day, though you will need to apply eye drops for a few weeks to prevent infection and help with healing. Strenuous activities and swimming should be avoided for about a week.

The right time is when the cataract begins to interfere with your daily activities (driving, reading, etc.). There is no need to wait for it to "mature" as was previously believed. With current technique, early intervention is safer and the recovery is faster.

Glaucoma often has no symptoms in its early stages. If you are over 40, have a family history of glaucoma, or have high eye pressure, you should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1 to 2 years. If you are diagnosed with glaucoma or are at high risk, your ophthalmologist will recommend more frequent follow-ups, typically every 3 to 6 months.

Keratoconus is a disease that causes progressive thinning and deformation of the cornea. We treat it primarily with Corneal Cross-Linking to stop its progression, and in some cases with intracorneal rings to improve vision.

High eye pressure does not always mean you have glaucoma, but it does require a thorough evaluation. In our practice, we perform an assessment with optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, and pachymetry to determine your actual risk. Based on the results, we decide whether to start treatment or schedule periodic monitoring.

Recovery after cataract surgery is fast. Most patients notice improved vision within the first 24 to 48 hours. You will need to apply eye drops for a few weeks and avoid physical exertion during the first week. A follow-up visit is scheduled the day after surgery to confirm everything is healing properly.

A general eye exam is recommended every two years. From age 40 onward, it is advisable to include intraocular pressure measurement and fundus evaluation, especially if there is a family history of glaucoma or high myopia.
